Maharashtra NEET UG Counselling

Maharashtra NEET UG Counselling

Maharashtra NEET UG Counselling is a centralized counselling process undertaken by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra, for admission to undergraduate dental and medical courses like MBBS and BDS in the state. It is based on National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) scores following guidelines of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The counselling procedure is available for candidates who have passed the NEET UG and fulfill the state eligibility criteria, including domicile conditions for the state quota seats. 85% of medical and dental seats are available in Maharashtra under the state quota, and the remaining 15% are allotted through the All India Quota (AIQ) by MCC.

The counselling process generally consists of online registration, document verification, choice filling, seat allotment, and reporting to the assigned institute. It is conducted in several rounds with a mop-up round for the vacant seats. The participating institutes are government colleges, private colleges, and deemed universities of Maharashtra. The counselling provides a fair and merit-based distribution of seats to deserving candidates, enabling them to get admitted into prestigious medical colleges in the state.

Moreover, there is a special reservation policy for different categories like SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PwD, as per government norms. Maharashtra NEET UG Counselling is an important milestone in determining the medical careers of thousands of hopefuls every year and is a vital step towards realizing their aspiration of becoming healthcare professionals.

Maharashtra NEET UG Counseling Seat Intake

  1. Government Medical Colleges:
  • Government medical colleges in Maharashtra have a sufficient number of MBBS seats for admission, keeping in mind two types of quota-the state quota and all-India quota.
  • Seats are normally reserved for SC/ST, OBC, EWS, and PwD categories, along with unreserved (general) seats.
  • The number of seats is much larger in government colleges as compared to private ones through state counselling (UGMAC) and All India Quota.
  1. Private Medical Colleges:
  • Private medical colleges participate in the counseling process and have a certain number of MBBS and BDS seats. This intake is smaller than that of private medical colleges, but the fee tends to be greater.
  • Seats, like in the government colleges, are allocated based on merit, preferences, and availability under the course of counselling.
  1. Reserved Category Seats:
  • A quota of seats for SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates is reserved. The allocation will be determined by the candidates’ respective NEET rankings as well as qualification under the respective reservation policies.
  1. Management Quota Seats:
  • There are some private medical colleges that reserve some seats under management quota. Management quotas may not fill seats through the regular counseling process and thus could involve higher fees.
