Karnataka NEET UG Counselling is the centralized counselling process by which deserving aspirants secure admission into undergraduate medical (MBBS) and dental (BDS) courses in the state-run, private, and deemed universities of the state. Organized by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), the counselling process is as per the performance of candidates in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG), a nation-wide medical entrance test organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The counseling is usually conducted in several rounds, such as a mop-up round and a stray vacancy round, based on seat availability. Candidates have to register online through the official KEA website, upload documents, and complete the choice filling and locking process. Seats are assigned according to NEET UG ranks, category, reservation rules, and seat availability. After the allotment of a seat, candidates must acknowledge their admission by reporting to the respective institute with original documents and submitting the necessary fees.
Karnataka provides medical seats in various quotas such as the state quota, private quota, NRI quota, and so on, providing opportunities to domicile as well as non-domicile candidates. The counselling procedure also follows the reservation guidelines stipulated by the state government.
The Karnataka NEET UG Counselling strives to provide transparency, merit admission, and fair access to medical education. Aspirants must remain current with the KEA notifications, keep to deadlines, and be precise while applying to remain eligible. Proper participation in the counselling is an important step in getting a medical seat in Karnataka.

Eligibility criteria for Karnataka NEET UG Counseling:
Here’s a breakdown of the steps involved:
Candidates need to register for the counseling process on the official KEA website. This involves filling out basic details, uploading necessary documents, and paying the counseling fee.
The registered candidates are required to log in after registration and fill in their choices for colleges and courses.
Candidates have to fill in the options carefully, as it affects the allotment of seats.
KEA will publish a merit list of such candidates based on the NEET UG score. The merit list ranks candidates according to their NEET results.
After this process of document verification, all the candidates should complete the admission formalities by submitting the required documents and paying the fees in the allotted college. If the candidates do not report for admission in the given time, their seat may be canceled.
The candidates must pay a counseling fee to participate in the process. This fee is non-refundable regardless of the candidate being awarded a seat or not.
The candidates must fulfill certain eligibility requirements, such as domicile norms, and should have qualified for NEET-UG.
Government medical colleges in Karnataka have a sufficient number of MBBS seats for admission, keeping in mind two types of state quota and the all-India quota.
Seats are normally reserved for SC/ST, OBC, EWS, and PwD categories, along with unreserved (general) seats.
The number of seats is much larger in government colleges as compared to private ones through state counselling (UGMAC) and All India Quota.
Private medical colleges participate in the counseling process and have a certain number of MBBS and BDS seats. This intake is smaller than that of private medical colleges, but the fee tends to be greater.
Seats, like in the government colleges, are allocated based on merit, preferences, and availability under the course of counselling.
A quota of seats for SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates is reserved. The allocation will be determined by the candidates’ respective NEET rankings as well as qualification under the respective reservation policies.
There are some private medical colleges that reserve some seats under management quota. Management quotas may not fill seats through the regular counseling process and thus could involve higher fees.
